Wood is the most ecological fuel known to man. In Switzerland, it is available in sufficient quantities and trees grow back quickly. During growth, trees remove CO₂ from the air and store it. As with any other combustion process, when wood is burned CO₂ is released again. Compared with combustion, the metabolic process is neutral on account of the absorption and release of CO₂ and therefore does not harm our environment. Domestic production means short transportation routes, as a result of which the environment is not polluted by unnecessary grey energy either. Heating with wood protects the climate.

WK-Paletten AG uses the by-products of its production processes (wood shavings, sawdust and cuttings) to make pellets. This unadulterated raw material is compressed under high pressure to form small cylindrical pellets. Due to their homogeneity, density and a maximum water content of 10%, they have a very high calorific value. Two kilograms of pellets are equivalent to a litre of heating oil – with a heat energy content of 9.8 kWh.
